The Rangers, as expected, have bought out Brad Richards from the remainder of his contract, a source told ESPN.com.

Richards, 34, had six years remaining on his contract, paying him an average of $6.67M per season. He signed a $60M, nine-year deal with the Rangers in the summer of 2011.

Saku Koivu, Jonas Hiller and forward Daniel Winnik won't be offered contracts by the Ducks for next season, general manager Bob Murray confirmed Thursday.

Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli said Monday he told free-agent forward Shawn Thornton the team would not be bringing him back for an eighth season.

"Today I met with Shawn. We had a good meeting and I informed him that we wouldn't be re-signing him," Chiarelli said in a video posted on the team's web site.

The Islanders have acquired the negotiating rights for impending unrestricted free agent Dan Boyle, the team announced.

The Isles traded for the veteran defenseman, sending back a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2015 NHL draft to the Sharks that will become a fourth-round pick should Boyle sign with the team, according to an ESPN.com report.
